Ooblecks, Dilatants or more generally Shear Thickening Fluids (STF) are certain types of smart materials whose viscosity changes in response to increasing forces (strain/shear) applied to it by its local immediate environment, e.g. compression, vibration, acceleration or heat. Especially vibration can create some particularly interesting and inspiring effects as shown in the videos below. You can create and experiment with your own STF by mixing water and corn/potato starch in an approx. 1:1.33 ratio.
