| Toypography, by Dainippon Type Organization (first seen at DesignTide 2006) is a toy of typography. Fragments of letters, that can be put together to either English or Japanese letters and characters. The thing about Toypography is, that Japanese expressions can be transformed into English expressions of the same meaning. |

Yeah I remember this, I was actually at the DesignTide exhibition in Tokyo. I remember writing the word 'cunt' with them. Good times.

That's very very cool.
By the way, these characters are actually Chinese, or kanji.

Br!ll!ant. Imagine the possibilities. Wonder how many other words they explored.
This could be a wonderful tool for teaching children (or adults) language both
visually and through action of building the letters and characters.

This thing is going to bore the pants off of the kids of thousands of geeked-out designers. Blech.

Haha. I agree. Really cool, but I gotta agree with Janek;I'm sure many people have turned letters into pictures into kanji etc. Making building blocks of this idea is clever, but nowhere near "beyond amazing!" w

Alas, that last one doesn't show the respect I have for the waterfall of inspiration that flows from TAB's various artists & designers. 日本に帰りたいニャ!

>>By the way, these characters are actually Chinese, or kanji.
They were originally borrowed from Chinese, but they're Japanese characters now. Besides which, the current official Chinese versions of "horse" and "bird" for example are quite different.

Very cute/ cool but if you check out the site, you'll see how expensive they are. They range in price from 9500¥ for a short word like BEAR to 12500¥ for a longer word like MONKEY. That's about 100 bucks a word! To get all 7 words, it'll cost you around 700$. I dread to think what the shipping charge would be like (cheaper for me, I live in Japan.)

Coal, the Chinese versions of "horse" and "bird" are the same as pictured. But I think you are referring to simplified Chinese which does look slightly different and I don't believe is officially integrated as the national form of writing yet. (Long live traditional!!)
